  Pre Press

Digital Pre-Press
By using state of the art equipment and quality process controls, our pre press department takes your design and readies it for press. We take your design vision and make it a label reality.

Art Files
Adobe Illustrator files are preferred, as most cases the pre press needs of labels require the ability to edit within vector software. We use the latest versions of the Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design and Acrobat) and update regularly as new versions become available. We are able to import vector art into Illustrator from most of these programs.

Text
For conventional printing, (offset and flexography), we do not recommend printing text as a process build, since it requires the precise registration of four colors at once. If text must be in process colors, limit the color build to two of the process colors. We accept outline and live copy. Keeping text live and providing the fonts will aid in future edits if they are needed.

Images
Four color process, Duotone or Grayscale
For flexographic and digitally printed labels, build images with 300 ppi (pixels per inch) at print size. For offset printed labels, 500 ppi is preferred. If the print method has not yet been chosen it is best to build images at the higher 500 ppi.

Please be aware if submitting final art in PDF format, most Adobe presets will down sample images in order to decrease the file size. Therefore we recommend using “Illustrator Default” when submitting final art. “High Quality Print”, “Press Quality”, and the PDF X series will down sample to 300 ppi. Please convert RGB images to CMYK using “SWOP v2 20%”.

Bitmap images
Please save Bitmap images at 1200 ppi. Convert grayscale images to bitmap output using the 50% threshold method. Other methods, (Pattern Dither, Diffusion Dither, Halftone Screen and Custom Pattern), result in a screened file, which can cause Moiré when processed through a RIP. A screened bitmap image is not adjustable for dot gain. If this conversion is for colorizing to a grayscale image, please provide the image in grayscale mode and we will colorize it.

Supplying Art
Send art files by email to art@vintage99.com. Send larger files via a file transfer sites such as YouSendIt® or by using our ftp drop box. We also accept art on disk. Please keep your color settings set to CMYK with US pre-press defaults (SWOPv2 20%). This is the most accurate representation of what your artwork will look like from screen to press.
